Bordeaux is one of the most historic wine areas in the world. Known for its Grand Cru Châteaus, Bordeaux is also home to amazing wines at all price points. The presence of wine is felt in every town and village. As we go into fall there is nothing nicer then warming up in the evening with a nice bottle of Bordeaux Red. On Saturday Vintages is releasing 22 great wines in a special feature. The timing of this feature is wonderful as 2005 was one of the Best Vintages ever in Bordeaux and many of these are from this Vintage. Not surprising the best value in this Bordeaux release happens to be the least expensive.
2005 Chateau Ducla, Bordeaux
Tasting Note: A blend of 63% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec. Rich aromas of red fruit, toast and hints of spice followed by powerful, well-balanced flavours of vanilla and a pleasant lingering hint of cherry and blackcurrant.
Enjoy With: Works best with menus featuring grilled or roasted lamb, beef or pork. Or try with cheese.
Dry / Sweet: Dry red wine
Terroir / Region: From the Heart of Bordeaux this is classified a Bordeaux Supérieur, which means they adhere to stricter quality production rules; Vineyards have 10% lower yields and the wine is matured for at least 12 months in barrel.
Producer: Château Ducla is a historic vineyard extending across the south and western slopes of the hills in Saint-Exupery and benefit from great sun exposure. On the label is a picture of the 14th Century house owned by a Scottish Gentleman named Mr. Douglas, hence the French conversion to 'Ducla'.
