The 3rd Thursday of every November is officially the launch of Nouveau wines. While not the huge wine event it was a few years ago it still is a nice excuse to pick up a bottle of wine. The tradition began quietly more than a century ago in the vineyards of Beaujolais. The Château owners, to reward the vineyard workers at the end of the harvest, wanted an instant wine. They could not wait months for oak maturation of the just-picked grapes, so a new method of quick wine making was born. We all work hard and thanks to new wine making technology, Nouveau wines can be very good quality. Pick up a bottle of Nouveau this weekend to reward your hard work and toast the wonderful winemakers.

Mezzacorona NOVIO Vino Novello 2008
Tasting Note: Produced from local Northern Italian Teroldego and Lagrein grapes that were harvested around September 1st. Ruby red in colour with fruity aromas and hints of ripe berries and cherries.
Enjoy With: The Novio pairs well with braised or smoked meat and all types of quiches. The perfect partner while sitting in front of an open fire and roasting chestnuts.
Dry / Sweet: Dry Fruity Red wine
Terroir / Region: The wine is from the Trentino-Alto Adige region of Northern Italy in the foothills of the Dolomites.
Producer: Novio is a century old producer from Northern Italy comprised of a group of quality focused vineyard owners.
Availability: Novio Novello is the Best Value Nouveau wine that was released by the LCBO. Quantities are limited but should be lots available for this weekend.
