Ice Wine is a true world class wine produced in Ontario, but at $30+ for a half bottle it really is relegated to special occasions or gifts. On a recent trip to Niagara we discovered a gem in an amazing aged Select Late Harvest Vidal that tasted like an ice wine. From the good 1999 Vintage, the wine is showing amazing golden honeyed tones. We were further amazed to find out that it was being released on LCBO General List this fall for only $15.95 retail. This is a tremendous value and get as much as you can now of the 1999 vintage. This is a true value discovery and at this price there is no problem sharing a couple of bottles with friends and family.

1999 Strewn Select Late Harvest Vidal

Tasting Note:  The Select Late Harvest has subtle aromas of honey and apricots with hints of pear and roses. The flavours are lively and the wine is rich and full on the palate. The sweetness yields to a clean and fresh finish with a lasting aftertaste. We love the luscious golden Honeyed tones from the long bottle ageing.

Enjoy With:  Great as an aperitif and you will be amazed how it matches with pate and cheeses. A great dessert wine that would be a fantastic match with a seasonal berry tart or flan. Just make sure that the dessert is not sweeter than the wine.

Dry / Sweet:  Sweet white wine.

Terroir / Region:  From Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Producer:  Strewn Winery is a great Ontario Boutique winery just over 10 years old. A great place to visit and a fantastic on site restaurant. For more information, please visit www.strewnwinery.com
