This week’s feature, along with a number of wines from the region of Abruzzo, have teamed together to support this area of Italy where a 6.3 earthquake killed more than 150 people and left 50,000 homeless earlier this month.

Tasting Note: Enjoy this full-bodied wine endowed with smooth tannins, full of intense aromas of cherries and wild fruits, including notes of violet and spiced hints of leather and pepper. You’ll be surprised by this pleasant and dry, but persistent finish.

Enjoy With: This wine can be enjoyed from the beginning of your meal to end, especially with main courses containing rich sauces, roasted meat, cold cuts and seasoned cheeses.

Terroir / Region: A true native of Abruzzo, Italy, this wine is produced in the hills of the Province of Chieti, approximately 120 – 350 metres above sea level. The vineyards of this region range from the rolling hills of Ortona, leading down to the shores of the Adriatic Sea, offering vines caressed by sea breezes and mountain currents, providing perfect temperature ranges to produce this richly enjoyed grape.

Producer: This 100% Montepulciano wine is produced by the Consorzio Cooperative Riunite in the green, flourishing and mountainous area of central Italy. The Citra brand, originating from tradition, passion and business skill, defines the most sold Abruzzo wine world-wide. The Citra name is an expression of deep attachment to the region’s heritage, indicating centuries-old tradition of winemaking in the Chieti district of Abruzzo.
