2008 Fuzion Alta Malbec Reserva

$9.95

Pick up this sensational new Malbec, and put yourself at the front end of the latest Fuzion craze. With its debut in the summer of 2008, Fuzion’s Shiraz/Malbec was a steal at $7.45 and quickly became the LCBO’s top-selling red wine. The Alta Malbec Reserva is their newest offering, one step up the quality scale, and promises the same exceptional value. Ontario residents are in luck — for the next year, the wine will be available only in the LCBO before being released to other markets.

Tasting Note: Brilliant purple in colour with good complexity on the nose. Typical Malbec aromas of ripe figs, plums and blackberries are underpinned by vanilla, mocha and tobacco. A full-bodied red wine with sweet ripe tannins, great structure and a long finish.

Enjoy With: Enjoy it on its own on a chilly evening or with red meat and full-flavoured dishes. Its generous tannins and rich, spicy fruit will stand up to the boldest foods.

Style: Dry, fruity, full-bodied red.

Terroir / Region: This 100% Malbec is a blend of grapes from vineyards in the Maipú, Uco Valley and Santa Rosa sub-regions of Argentina’s famous Mendoza region.

Producer: Fuzion, the byword for value in Argentine wine, comes from Familia Zuccardi, a third-generation, family-owned winery that was started in 1963 almost by accident: the founder was an engineer and irrigation specialist who planted a small vineyard to demonstrate how well his irrigation devices worked. They worked so well that today Zuccardi is one of the leading wineries in the country. Their Santa Julia and Zuccardi lines are also widely available.

Availability: Available at your local LCBO.
