Tasting Note: Fresh, fragrant, simple and straightforward, it's fleshy and bright with refreshing red berry and candied cherry. Good underlying structure gives it a delightful balance. Very lively - a classic example of the Nouveau style.
Enjoy With: Nouveau is best served slightly chilled (give it half an hour) with lighter foods and appetizers. Great with holiday turkey or ham, if you can wait that long!
Style: Dry, fruity red wine.
Terroir / Region: The hills of Beaujolais lie in Burgundy's deep south, between the towns of Beaune and Lyon. The moderate climate and granite soils create ideal growing conditions for Gamay, the grape of Beaujolais.
Producer: The Bichot family's Burgundian roots go back to the 1300s. Wine producers since 1831, they now own properties throughout Burgundy. Sixth-generation director, Albéric Bichot, has won a number of winemaking awards since taking over in 1996. He believes that good wine comes from premium fruit grown in healthy soils, and he practices organic viticulture wherever possible.
