Tasting Note: Intensely fruity with aromas of ripe sweet cherry. Dry and clean on the palate, the red fruit shows nuances of pepper, spice and tobacco. Medium-bodied, fresh and well-balanced.

Enjoy With: Winter comfort foods: vegetable lasagna or pasta in meat sauce.

Style: Dry, medium-bodied red wine.

Terroir / Region: The fertile, mountainous region of Abruzzo lies on central Italy's Adriatic coastline and has a winemaking history that stretches back centuries. Hillside vineyards, summer heat and solar radiation from the sea are ideal for ripening red grapes, traditionally Montepulciano, and more recently Tuscany's famed Sangiovese.

Producer: The Citra name is rich in tradition. "Citra," meaning below, and "ultra," meaning above, were words used to describe the areas into which Abruzzo was divided on 17th century maps. Long recognized for the incredible value its wines offer, the Consorzio Co-operative Riunitem - the company behind Citra - chose the name to reflect its deep attachment to its regional heritage and its proud and passionate growers.
