If the depths of February have you thinking that spring will never come, pick up a bottle of Fuzion Organico Malbec/Cabernet — it's sure to lift your spirits. Brought in by the LCBO as a one-time special for the holidays, this wine was so successful it's now been launched as a permanent General Listing. If you're in Toronto, visit Fuzion's booth at the National Home Show at Exhibition Place this weekend.
Tasting Note: The Organico Malbec/Cab catches the eye with its intense and lively red colour. Inviting aromas of sweet spice, prunes, fresh blackberries and figs draw you in to the glass. There you’ll find plenty of Malbec's sweet fruitiness balanced by Cabernet's savoury seriousness. Soft and smooth on the palate, its fleshy tannins give balancing structure and a lengthy finish.
Enjoy With: The perfect accompaniment to baked pasta with red sauce and spicy sausage. It’ll also pair nicely with mature cheeses: try it with three-year-old cheddar or aged asiago.
Style: Dry, fruity full-bodied red wine.
Terroir / Region: Malbec and Cabernet are the signature varietals of Argentina's grape-growing paradise of Mendoza. On the slopes of the Andes, intensely sunny days and very cool nights produce fruit of remarkable purity and distinction. Grapes for the Organico Malbec/Cabernet are sourced from the Maipú and Santa Rosa sub-regions.
Producer: Fuzion, the byword for value in Argentine wine, comes from Familia Zuccardi, a third-generation, family-owned winery that was started in 1963 almost by accident: the founder was an engineer and irrigation specialist who planted a small vineyard to showcase the effectiveness of his irrigation devices. They worked so well that today Zuccardi is one of the leading wineries in the country. The Organico Malbec/Cabernet reflects the family's great respect for the idyllic natural environment that surrounds them.
