Enjoy With: Marries perfectly with shellfish and sushi. Chill it well and drink it with some oysters on the halfshell.
Style: Dry, light white wine.
Terroir / Region: Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi is part of Italy's Marche region. It's just north of Ancona on the Adriatic coast, due east of Tuscany. Along the shore the landscape is flat, but inland, hillside vineyards give wines of real character and zest. Verdicchio is responsible for the most exciting white wines of the region, their fame largely due to the ongoing efforts of Fazi-Battaglia.
Producer: For many people, Verdicchio is Fazi-Battaglia, although they might be more familiar with the famous green-glass amphora-shaped bottle than the name. Since 1948, Fazi-Battaglia has been a leader in the area, both in volume and quality. Possessing 300 hectares over 12 vineyards, they have been instrumental in the marketing of the region and currently control more than 20% of production.
