C'est la Vie Pinot Noir/Syrah is a lighthearted offering from renowned Burgundian Albert Bichot. Blending these grapes would be outrageous (and against the rules) in tradition-bound Burgundy; in Languedoc, Bichot can indulge an impertinent and daring streak. Those who find Pinot too light on the palate will appreciate the boost it gets here from chewier Syrah.
Tasting Note: Lovely garnet-red colour with fresh aromas of red licorice, black pepper and sweet spice. Fleshy and generous on the palate, with lots of red fruit and hints of fresh herbs, it's got good body, lively acidity and very approachable tannins.
Enjoy With: Grilled sausages, charcuterie or smoked baby back ribs.
Style: Dry, medium-bodied red wine.
Terroir / Region: The vine-covered region of Languedoc in France's deep south stretches along the Mediterranean coast, from Nimes in the east to the Pyrenean foothills in the west, near the Spanish border. Where other French regions have long traditions of quality winemaking, Languedoc until recently produced mostly bulk wines. As producers reinvent their wines, with more of a focus on quality, they’ve been free to invent their own rules as well, experimenting with grapes and blends that would shock their counterparts to the north.
Producer: The Bichot family has a very long history in Burgundy, with roots going back to the 1300s. Wine producers since 1831, they own properties throughout the region. Sixth-generation director Albéric Bichot has recently expanded his venture to the more relaxed south. With its whimsical labels, screwcap closures and offbeat blends, C'est la Vie invites you to relax and take life as it comes.
