Terroir / Region: The Trentino DOC makes up the southern, Italian-speaking half of northern Italy's Trentino-Alto Adige region. In the foothills of the Dolomite mountains, near the Italian Alps, its microclimates are influenced equally by warm Mediterranean and cool Alpine air. Known for its elegant, aromatic and vivid whites, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio dominate. The grapes for Mezzacorona's PG are sourced from vineyards along the Adige Valley.
Producer: Mezzacorona was named Wine Enthusiast magazine's 2009 European Winery of the Year, in recognition of its excellence at all levels of wine production. With 1,500 growers, 6,000 acres of vineyards and 100 years of winemaking tradition, it is one of Italy's biggest co-op wineries, producing immensely popular modern wines of great value. Mezzacorona takes an aggressive and comprehensive approach to green management: there's minimal use of sprays and insecticides, plant waste is recycled as fertilizer, wastewater is purified and returned to rivers, electrical power is minimized, and workers and growers are ensured fair and stable incomes.
