2007 Strewn Barrel-Aged Chardonnay, VQA Niagara

$12.95

With tomorrow Canada Day and the weekend looking to be glorious, why not pick up a delicious and affordable white from one of Ontario's most well-respected producers? Made with a judicious and sure-handed use of oak barrels, this is a very elegant and polished Chardonnay.

Tasting Note: Toasty oak, apple and tropical fruit aromas on the nose with pleasant floral hints. Creamy and fruity on the palate, it's smooth and well-balanced with a refreshing citrus-mineral quality at the finish.

Enjoy With: Baked fish, steamed lobster with drawn butter or grilled chicken breasts.

Style: Dry, medium-bodied white wine.

Terroir / Region: The Niagara on the Lake VQA region sits below the crest of the Niagara Escarpment, stretching to the Niagara River and the shores of Lake Ontario. It enjoys the tempering benefit of both bodies of water, which reduce the possibility of spring and fall frosts, and the sheltering effect of the Escarpment. Strewn is situated on ten acres just outside the town of Niagara on the Lake, the heart of Ontario wine culture.

Producer: Owner/winemaker Joe Will left a job in the corporate world to pursue a lifelong dream of making wine. After studying at Australia's renowned Roseworthy College, he returned home to become Pillitteri's first winemaker, before opening his own winery twelve years ago. He is committed to and inspired by the expression of the Niagara terroir. Central to the Strewn philosophy is the belief that great wines start in the vineyard and that working with nature is the key to producing the best possible results.
