2009 Fuzion Alta Torrontés/Pinot Grigio, Argentina

$8.95

Celebrate Civic Holiday and what looks to be a glorious summer weekend with something different - this newly arrived, terrifically refreshing white. Fuzion has played a huge part in putting Malbec on the map in Ontario; now they'd like to do the same with Torrontés, a little-known white grape native to Argentina. Blended with 10% Pinot Grigio, for some added complexity and a bit of comforting familiarity.

Tasting Note: Very appealing from the first sniff: complex and aromatic with notes of roses, orange peel and chamomile. These carry through to more opulent peach, pear and citrus flavours on the palate. Ripe, fresh and fruity, it's very elegant and well balanced, delivering a lot of character for this price.

Enjoy With: Great as an afternoon sipper, it's also ideal with salads, shellfish or barbecued chicken.

Style: Dry, medium-bodied, fruity white wine.

Terroir / Region: Located on the slopes of the Andes, Mendoza is a grape-growing paradise. Intensely sunny days and very cool nights produce fruit of remarkable purity and distinction. The Torrontés grapes come from high-altitude Maipu vineyards in the southeast of Mendoza, the Pinot Grigio from the more desertlike climate of Santa Rosa in the northeast.

Producer: The wildly popular Fuzion line is produced by Familia Zuccardi Winery in Argentina. A third-generation, family-owned winery, Zuccardi is committed to using as much manpower and as little machinery in the vineyards as possible. This new blend speaks to Zuccardi's continued determination to develop its identity and portfolio while showcasing the quality and potential of native Argentine varietals.
