2008 Ménage à Trois White, California

$17.95

With a name like this, who could resist picking up a bottle - or three? From Folie à Deux Winery in California, Ménage à Trois examines what happens when you put three attractive, single grapes together in one delicious bottle. A refreshing blend of Chardonnay, Muscat and Chenin Blanc, it's the perfect threesome.

Tasting Note: Tropical fruit, citrus and floral notes are front and centre, almost jumping out of the glass to meet the nose. Fruity and unabashedly easy, it's for quaffing, not analyzing. Ripe and rich with lots of juicy fruit character, yet perfectly balanced by crisp acidity for maximum refreshment.

Enjoy With: Well, it has to be said: enjoy it with a couple of close friends - and a wide range of Asian and Asian-inspired foods. Its fruity crispness is the perfect complement to spicy or sweet dishes.

Style: Dry, medium-bodied, fruity white wine.

Terroir / Region: The fruit for this wine is a blend of grapes from California's Napa and Sonoma valleys and Amador County to the east. In Napa and Sonoma, vineyards enjoy the cooling effect of the Pacific Ocean but are protected from its extremes by the coastal mountain range. Further inland, Amador's climate is warmer, but cool nighttime breezes from the Sierra Nevada foothills balance ripeness with freshness.

Producer: Founded in 1981 by two shrinks, Folie à Deux's name comes from a psychiatric term meaning shared fantasies. The winery's goal is to create a dance of flavours and varietal expression that delivers a delightful shared experience. The Ménage wines are all three-grape blends, with a focus on fun and approachability. Folie à Deux was purchased in 2004 by Trinchero Family Estates, named the American winery of the year in 2009 by Wine Enthusiast magazine.

Availability: The Ménage à Trois white and red were both released on Saturday, August 21 in Vintages. Look for them in the USA/California section.
